Juan "Cuto" Cutillas is a retired Spanish professional footballer and manager. He is a former manager of the Philippines national football team.[1][2]

Education

Cutillas took medicine to the dismay of his father who prefers him to enter law school. He finished medical school and became a doctor. He practiced medicine for four years and later took football coaching courses.[3]

Club career

Cutillas played for the youth team of Atletico de Madrid. He was called up to suit for the first team but was unable to do so because Cutillas was doing a compulsory military service. Cutillas eventually suited for the first team in a game against Zaragoza.[3]

Managerial Career

In the late seventies decided to move to Philippines along with Tomas Lozano, Manuel Cuenca, and Julio Rojas to improve football in Philippines, later married a Filipina. He has coached the Philippine national team, numerous times, from 1968-1972, 1975-1978, 1981-1984, 1996-2000 and 2008-2009. He briefly left for Australia in 1985 during the onset of the People Power Revolution, where he coached a handful of Australian professional football teams. He was named coach of the year by the Queensland Football Federation in 1987 due to leading Brisbane City to a Grand Final finish and in 1993 for leading the Taringa Rovers in the Queensland Cup.[1][4] Cutillas served as head coach of the Queensland State and also the Queensland Academy of Sport from 1991 to 1996.

Cutillas was a lecturer at the University of the Philippines and was the physical director of the Philippine National Men's Basketball team from 1976 to 1985.[1]

Cutillas became head coach of Pachanga Diliman but later left for Kaya due to issues with some members of the management staff of the former.[3]
