Julius Debrah is a Ghanaian politician currently the Chief of Staff[1] to the President of Ghana. In February 2015, he was appointed Chief of Staff after the former, Prosper Douglas Bani was sacked from office.[2]
In 2015, February, Julius Debrah was appointed Chief of Staff by President John Dramani Mahama to replace Prosper Bani after serving as the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development the one year prior.
Hon Julius Debrah's appointment was received with joy by members of the National Democratic Congress who had insisted on a grass-root person to occupy that office.
Debrah previously held the titles of Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Eastern Regional Minister of Ghana, and [3][4] Greater Accra Regional Minister.
Born on the 4th day of April 1966, a little over a month after the overthrow of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, little did his parents know that they had brought forth a son who will overthrow the social order and scale heights that contradicts his humble beginning.
Hon Julius Debrah had his O’level education at Mpraeso Secondary School and moved to Achimota Secondary School for his A Level from 1987 to 1989 After his A’Level education, he gained admission to the University of Ghana where he obtained BA in Archaeology/Sociology
Honourable Julius Debrah, is an experienced entrepreneur, social development specialist and politician. Through his entrepreneurial work covering a range of sectors, as well as assignments in tourism and his political activities, Hon. Debrah has developed a deep understanding of the socio- economic development needs of Ghana and what is required to manage and facilitate a systematic transformation of the country for improved livelihoods of Ghanaians. Hon Julius Debrah dedicated about 18 years of his working life working as an entrepreneur in the areas of Real Estate Agriculture. These enterprises helped him to develop his management skills, particularly with respect to working with limited resources to create value, as well as in managing people Hi ability to develop SMEs was a key factor in his appointment as the Chief of Staff by President John Dramani Mahama because it is in line with his vision to transform the live of Ghanaians through job creation His understanding of Ghana, it history and it development needs that was entrenched by his study of Archaeology and Sociology at the University of Ghana helps him to contribute meaningfully to developing the country Additionally, his work in tourism also gave him extensive coverage of the country and the whole African Continent.
As Minister of Local Government and Rural Development until recently, he worked systematically with relevant state agencies to promote order in the country through an aggressive street naming project and also mobilising the whole country to pay more attention to sanitation. The success of the National Sanitation Campaign, which now sees stakeholders at the national, regional, district, community and individual levels, undertaking activities to maintain a healthy environment, can be attributed to his vision and drive.
As part of this passion, Julius has been politically active, including grassroots mobilisation and various roles played in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), such as holding an Executive position in the NDC in the Eastern Region. All this activism has equipped him with an appreciation of what is needed for the strengthening of our country’s democracy, as well as requirements for its growth and sustenance. Socially, Julius is known as an extremely patriotic and hard-working, principled, efficient individual and a unifier. He has a special interest in youth empowerment. He also has an exceptional eye for detail in the execution of assignments. Hon. Debrah is, therefore, expected to bring all his qualities to his role as the Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic of Ghana dedicated to managing the Office of the President and supporting the President in the execution of his national transformation agenda. A native of Obomeng Kwahu, Hon. Debrah is married with two children.
