Karen Asrian (Armenian: Կարեն Ասրյան) (24 April 1980 – 9 June 2008) was an Armenian chess Grandmaster.
He won the Armenian Chess Championship in 1999,[1] 2007,[2] and 2008,[3] and the Dubai 2001 and Tigran Petrosian Memorial (2004) tournaments.
In 2006, Asrian won the Chess Olympiad in Turin, playing third board on the Armenian team.[4] Asrian had a solid playing style, refusing to take much risk, and this combined with good endgame technique made him an excellent team player.
He graduated from the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture in 2001.[5]
On 9 June 2008 the Armenian Chess Federation reported that Asrian had died of a suspected heart attack while driving, which was confirmed the following day.[6]
