Karen Gren Scholer (born 1957) is a Texas lawyer and is a nominee to be a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
Biography
Scholer received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1979 from the Rice University. She received a Juris Doctor in 1982 from the Cornell Law School. She started her legal career as an associate at the law firm of Strasburger & Price, LLP, from 1982 to 1996 where she was elevated to partner in 1989. From 1996 to 2000, she was a partner at the law firm of Andrews & Kurth, LLP. From 2001 to 2008, she served as a State District Judge for the 95th Judicial District Court of Dallas County. In 2007, she also served as the Presiding Judge for the Dallas County Civil District Judges. From 2009 to 2013, she was a partner at the law firm of Jones Day. Since 2014 she has been a principal in the law firm of Carter Scholer Arnett Hamada & Mockler, PLLC, where she specializes in business litigation, complex tort litigation, and alternative dispute resolution. She was appointed as a co-managing partner in 2015.[1]
Nomination to district court
On March 15, 2016, President Obama nominated Scholer to serve as a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, to the seat vacated by Judge Richard Schell, who took senior status on March 10, 2015. Her nomination is currently pending before the Senate Judiciary Committee.[2] On September 7, 2016 a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee was held on her nomination.[3]
