Karl Alonzo Powe (born January 17, 1962) is a former American football wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys. He played college football at Alabama State University.
Early years
Powe attended Mattie T. Blount High School, before moving on to Alabama State University where he was a three-year starter.[1]
Professional career
Dallas Cowboys
Powe was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the seventh round (178th overall) of the 1985 NFL Draft, and made the team as a backup wide receiver after having a notable camp.[2] Although he finished the season with just 14 receptions for 237 yards, he was still seen as promising player.[3]
On September 9, 1986, he was placed on the injured reserve list after suffering nerve damage in his neck.[4] On September 1, 1987, he was placed on the injured reserve list with a sprained shoulder.[5][6] He was waived on October 20, after not being able to fully recover from his previous injuries.[7]
Green Bay Packers
On April 24, 1988, he was signed as a free agent by the Green Bay Packers, but was released before the start of the season.
Personal life
After his retirement, he became the offensive coordinator at Mattie T. Blount High School.[8]
