Kenowa Hills High School (colloquially referred to as Kenowa or KHHS) is an American high school located at 3825 Hendershot Ave NW, Alpine Township, Michigan (near Grand Rapids, Michigan).[4][5] It is a part of the Kenowa Hills Public Schools. Its mascot is the Knight, and its colors are black and gold.[3] The school fight song consists of music from the march You’re a Grand Old Flag with original words written for Kenowa Hills.
Performing Arts Center
The Kenowa Hills Performing Arts Center is a 750-seat theater located on the campus of Kenowa Hills High School. Its main purpose is to serve the needs of Kenowa Hills Public Schools, but the Performing Arts Center is also available to serve the community. It has been the site for concerts, recitals, lectures, theatrical performances, and formal ceremonies, including the Grand Rapids Symphony, Opera Grand Rapids, the Grand Rapids Community College Music Department, Circle Presents, The Dance Network, Walker Charter Academy, and Comstock Park High School. Each year, Kenowa Hills fine arts students perform a play and a musical, in addition to instrumental and vocal music concerts.[6]
Grounds
The grounds consist of tennis courts, practice fields, baseball and softball fields, and track surrounding the football field. Many of these are located across Hendershot Ave, near the middle school [7]
2012 senior bicycle ride incident
On Tuesday, May 22, 2012, many members of the school's senior class participated in a mass bicycle ride to school, escorted by a police vehicles, one of which had the Mayor of Walker in it. Principal Katharine Pennington, who had not been informed about the mass ride in advance, suspended all of the participants for the day and told them they were not allowed to participate in the traditional graduation walk.[8] On Wednesday, May 23, Pennington apologized.[9]
Athletics
Kenowa Hills participates in most varsity sports. In recent years, the Kenowa Hills football team has had successful seasons, winning conference championships in the 2008, 2009, and 2010. Kenowa Hills is a part of the Ottawa-Kent Conference, in the Black Division.
