The Kavoshgare Darya'ie Khalije Fars (Persian Gulf Sea Explorer) is a hydrographic and oceanographic survey ship being built by the Iranian Defense Ministry's Marine Industries Organization for the Iranian National Institute for Oceanography and Atmospheric Science since spring 2011.[1][2] On 19 February 2014, Dr. Vahid Chegini, the head of Iranian National Institute for Oceanography and Atmospheric Science said Iran will operate the research vessel by February 2015, if the financial resources are provided for its side-scan sonar and dynamic positioning (DP) equipment.[3]
