Klahowya Secondary School (or KSS) is a secondary school located in Silverdale, Washington and is in the Central Kitsap School District. Its award-winning programs include marching band (Marching Eagles), the cross country team, the baseball team, and the wrestling team. Klahowya Secondary School was constructed in 1996-1997 as a 132,000 square foot facility with 20 classrooms for grades 6-12. Klahowya is home to an award-winning Knowledge Bowl team and a hard-working Newspaper Club in addition to many other clubs and activities. In recent news, the Klahowya soccer team won the state 1A competition on November 22, 2014. For the 2016-2017 School Year Klahowya Secondary School now accepts 6th Graders. [2]
Etymology
"Klahowya", also spelled as "Klahowyum", is Chinook Jargon. It is commonly understood as a greeting or salutation. However it can also mean "please help me" or "I'm miserable" in the proper context.[3]
