Konice (Czech pronunciation: [ˈkoɲɪtsɛ]; German: Konitz) is a town near Prostějov and Olomouc in the Czech Republic. Population 2,935.
The name of the town is connected with stables which served as a resting place for horses during the long journeys to the Czech lands. The town was mentioned for the first time in 1200. The most important monument is the Baroque chateau from 1705. Other monuments include the parish church of the Virgin Mary Birth founded in 1506 and which houses a unique wooden pulpit. There was born the famous Czech actor Pavel Trávníček. Another famous person is the uncle Pepin from Hrabal´s novels. The most important factories are Moděva Konice and Kovo Konice. The town appears in the Czech film, Dark Blue World.
