Kudos (scholarly reputation service)
Kudos is a software service to help authors of scholarly content enrich and share their publications with the aim of gaining higher impact. Authors of research publications are able to use Kudos to describe their research in plain language, supplement it with information that has been created since the initial publication, generate trackable links with which to communicate it (e.g. email, social media, academic networks etc) and map the impact of these activities on publication metrics.[1] Authors are shown graphs showing the full text and article downloads of their content which can then be compared to their social media activities. In 2016, a study by the Altmetrics team at Nanyang Technological University showed that usage of Kudos correlates to 23% higher downloads of full text on publisher websites.[2] Over 100,000 researchers and 65 scholarly and scientific publishers had signed up to Kudos by June 2016.[3]
Awards
In October 2014, the company was awarded The Charleston Advisor’s Readers’ Choice Award for Best New End User Product.[4] In September 2015, Kudos was named as the winner of the 2015 ALPSP Award for Innovation in Publishing.[5]
Integrations
Kudos partnered with Thomson Reuters to add citation data to author dashboards in October 2014 utilizing citation data from Web of Science;[6] in May 2016, the company announced that it would also integrate with Thomson Reuters' ScholarOne manuscript submission and peer review system.[7] Kudos also integrates data from altmetrics provider Altmetric.com.[8]
