La verdad sospechosa

La verdad sospechosa is a play by Juan Ruiz de Alarcón.[1]

In the late sixteenth century, the theater is in a complete confusion of genres, topics and trends. Lope de Vega revolutionizes the scene by establishing a new model in a fabulous attempt to redirect the secular theater to a single formula. These new ideas appear epitomized in his new Art to make comedies (1609). Juan Ruiz de Alarcon is one of the most original followers of Lope, though, it brings an original vision on how to treat the characters. Obsession is thus seen to show that appearances are deceiving and that the conduct is not based on lineage but in the attitude of everyone. It seems that the theater failed in Madrid pens comedies for several reasons among which are his enmity with other playwrights and marked novelty of his theater before an audience not used to give him models of moral behavior. The author had to accommodate the press as saving table to survive.[2]
