Gandzasar Stadium (Armenian: Գանձասար մարզադաշտ), also known as Kapan City Stadium (Armenian: Կապանի քաղաքային մարզադաշտ), is a multi-purpose stadium in Kapan, the capital of Syunik Province, Armenia. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of Gandzasar. With a capacity of 3,500,[1] Gandzasar Stadium is located at the centre of the town of Kapan, on the left bank of Voghji River.
Background
The stadium was opened during the Soviet period in 1963 as Lernagorts Stadium, being home to Lernagorts Kapan. It remained under the ownership of the town council until 2004, when it was privatized and sold to the former of president of FC Gandzasar Kapan Garnik Ohanjanyan.[2]
By the end of 2008, the stadium went under a major renovation. The playing pitch was modernized and new seats were installed.
The average attendance at the stadium for Gandzasar at the Armenian Premier League matches is 1,500 spectators.
