List of Cardiff City F.C. managers
Cardiff City Football Club is a professional association football club based in Cardiff, Wales. This chronological list comprises all those who have held the position of manager of the first team of Cardiff City. Each manager's entry includes the dates of tenure and the club's overall competitive record (in terms of matches won, drawn and lost), honours won and significant achievements while under his care. Caretaker managers are included, where known, as well as those who have been in permanent charge.
As of 2014, there has been a total of 28 managers and 7 caretaker managers. Kenny Hibbitt has had the most spells at the club, taking the job on three occasions. Whilst some managers (Len Ashurst, Eddie May, Cyril Spiers) have all had the job on two occasions. The longest serving manager is Fred Stewart who was in charge for 22 years, won seven cups and achieved promotion twice. In terms of winning percentage, Billy McCandless is the most successful with a win percentage of 53% whilst the least successful is Paul Trollope with 16.67%.
History
Founded in 1899, Cardiff City did not appoint their first full-time manager in 1910, when Davy McDougall was appointed player-manager. Prior to this the team had been selected by the club's directors. After finishing in fourth place during his first season, the club's board decided to appoint a more experienced manager, hiring Fred Stewart.[1]
