Opened July 27, 1915, this library in the Puerto Rico was the first building to be built there for the specific purpose of a public library. In 1965, it was closed due to disrepair. It reopened in 1969. September 18, 1989, Hurricane Hugo severely damaged the library, resulting in $975,000 worth of books to be lost. It did not reopen again until 1995[2] |
