Naval ensign of Italy

List of active Italian Navy ships is a list of ships in active service with the Italian Navy. As of 4 October 2016 the navy maintains approximately 186 ships in service,[1] including minor auxiliary vessels. The fleet has started a process of renewal that will see 50 ships retired by 2025 and replaced by 30 multi-mission ships.[2] Ocean going fleet units include: two aircraft carriers, three small 8,000 tonne amphibious transport docks, four air-defence destroyers, one general-purpose frigate, 11 anti-submarine frigates, and seven attack submarines. Patrol and littoral warfare units include: two light patrol frigates, 10 offshore patrol vessels and four corvettes. In support of the fleet there are 10 mine countermeasure vessels, 4 coastal patrol boats and a varied fleet of auxiliary ships.
