The state is bordered by Manitoba and Saskatchewan to the north, Minnesota to the east, South Dakota to the south, and Montana to the west. The major Interstate Highways are Interstate 29 and Interstate 94, which meet in Fargo. State Highways
North Dakota highway signage previously had an N and a D in the top corners and a Native American profile, based on Lakota policeman Marcellus Red Tomahawk,[3][4] but a new sign design debuted in 2016 with "North Dakota" on a black background, the state in outline, and the highway number within the state outline, after a decision in 2015 by the North Dakota Department of Transportation to change the marker.[5]
