The Notorious B.I.G. (born Christopher George Latore Wallace) was an American rapper from New York City, New York who was killed in 1997 in a drive-by shooting at the age of 24.[1] As a young boy growing up in Brooklyn, New York, The Notorious B.I.G. dealt drugs before becoming a rapper.[2] As he rose to prominence in the music industry, he became a central figure in the East Coast-West Coast hip hop rivalry,[3] which led to his murder by an unknown assailant on March 9, 1997 in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles.[4] The Notorious B.I.G. has released three studio albums, all on the Bad Boy Records record label: Ready to Die (1994), Conspiracy (1995), and Life After Death (1997). Two of his albums were released posthumously: Born Again (1999), and Duets: The Final Chapter (2005).
The Notorious B.I.G. received two nominations from the Billboard Music Awards in 1995, including Rap Artist of the Year and Rap Single of the Year. The song "Mo Money Mo Problems" received several nominations in 1998, including Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group at the Grammy Awards; Best Rap Video at the MTV Video Music Awards; and Best R&B/Soul Album and Best R&B/Soul or Rap Music Video at the Soul Train Music Awards. Overall, The Notorious B.I.G. has received four awards from eleven nominations; one award and six nominations were received posthumously.
