List of defunct National Basketball League of Canada teams

The National Basketball League of Canada (NBL) is a professional men's basketball league, consisting of 8 teams in Canada (4 in Ontario and 4 in the provinces of Atlantic Canada). The NBL Canada was founded in 2011 with seven teams, three of them originally playing in the Premier Basketball League (PBL). It is considered the only domestic professional basketball league in the country of Canada and is known as a minor league.[1]
There have been four defunct franchises in the history of the NBL Canada. The Halifax Rainmen and Mississauga Power, who folded in 2015, are the only teams that have played multiple seasons. The Power team was discontinued due to the creation of Raptors 905, the NBA Development League affiliate to the National Basketball Association (NBA) team, the Toronto Raptors.[2] The Ottawa SkyHawks and Montreal Jazz ceased operations after only one season and both became defunct due to financial problems.[3] The Jazz were formerly known as the Quebec Kebs and then the Laval Kebs.[4]
