List of heads of governments of special municipalities, counties and provincial cities in Taiwan
This article lists the current heads of governments of the 6 special municipalities, 13 counties and 3 provincial cities in the Republic of China (Taiwan). Special municipalities and provinces are de jure first-level administrative divisions while counties and provincial cities are de jure second-level divisions of the republic. The Republic of China implemented streamlining of provinces in 1998.[1] According to the Local Government Act, provincial governments shall each be an agency of the Executive Yuan with provinces as non-local autonomous groups, while special municipalities, counties and provincial cities shall be local autonomous bodies.[2][3] Executive governments of the local autonomous bodies are controlled by the Executive Yuan, the state's highest central executive body, and are each led by a mayor or magistrate. Each mayor or magistrate are elected by the population of each division with a maximum term of five years and are limited to two terms in office.[2]
Currently, all of the mayors of special municipalities and provincial cities and magistrates of counties in the republic have won in the 2014 mayoral and magistratical elections and was sworn into office on 25 December 2014. Of the twenty-two current incumbents, two are women—Chen Chu in Kaohsiung County and Helen Chang in Chiayi County. Chiu Ching-chun of Hsinchu County is the oldest official (67 years, 3 days of age), while Hsinchu City's Lin Chih-chien is the youngest (41 years, 198 days old). Thirteen incumbents belong to the Democratic Progressive Party and six are from the Kuomintang; the remaining three have no party affiliation.
