Logan Creek

The Logan Creek located in Northeast Nebraska, locally known as the Dredge, flows casually from nearby Laurel, Nebraska and passes through the towns of Concord, Wakefield, Pender, Bancroft, Lyons, Oakland and a few smaller hamlets further down stream.

Name

Logan Creek obtained its name after Logan Fontenelle, a chief of the Omaha tribe, who was killed by Oglala Sioux in 1855.[1][2]

History

Logan Creek Site

Logan Creek Site is located at Marker 151 on US 77, between Uehling and Oakland on the border of Burt and Dodge Counties. It is managed by the Nebraska State Historical Society and was entered on the National Register of Historic Places.[2]

First European settlers

The Aaron Arlington family was in 1857 the first to settle near the present Oakland, which was named after John Oak in 1863.[2]

Trivia

The waters near the town of Bancroft are often referred to as the brown water zone, and is frequented by Admiral Marvin Greenfield, piloting his 12 ft kayak known as "Our Lady of Paducah".

Other notable features are the "Number Two Slough", named for the fact that a toilet can be seen there.
