Renovation

Markville was renovated by EllisDon for $110 million from 2011-2013. The renovation included the installation of 180,000 square feet (17,000 m2) of porcelain tile flooring, and 12,000 linear feet of glass handrails. Over 250,000 square feet (23,000 m2) of commercial space was to be renovated, which would add many brands new to Canada or the Greater Toronto Area. A new food court that would replace the old one was also in the renovation plans, it opened on 23 August 2012 as "Express Eatery" beside the lower level Sears entrance. The former food court location has been remodelled into shop space and two outdoor patio areas. This was the second renovation at the centre since the 1991 expansion. The renovation was completed in two years, and was finished in the fall of 2013.[2] During this transitional period, the mall's store count was reduced to 160. The last piece of the mall by Toys "R" Us was renovated by mid-2015 to add new tiles and LED lights after delays.

Public transit access

Several transit networks make nearby connections to Markville.[1] They include: York Region Transit (YRT)/Viva, and the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) which only operates a high volume route, 129A McCowan North that links between Scarborough Centre RT Station and Major Mackenzie Drive.

Bus routes

Bus routes that stop at the intersection of McCowan Road and Highway 7 include:

On October 16, 2005, Viva Purple was extended to McCowan as the temporary east terminus until January 27, 2008 when it was extended to Markham Stouffville Hospital. On November 20, 2005, Viva Green was extended here during peak-periods and remains the east terminal.
