Meessen De Clercq
Meessen De Clercq is a contemporary art gallery in Brussels, Belgium.[1][2] The gallery is established in a 20th-century building with three floors.[3][4]
History
In 2007, art historian Olivier Meessen and art enthusiast Jan De Clercq began to work to launch a contemporary art gallery in Brussels.[5] In April 2008 the gallery opened,[6] with a group show of site specific works by seven artists. After this first exhibition, the gallery temporarily closed for refurbishment. From September 2008 the gallery re-opened with group and solo shows by both established and new artists.[7]
As of 2015 Meessen De Clercq had held 58 solo exhibitions, 11 group shows and 25 Wunderkammer projects,[8] and published eleven publications, some of which were first monographies for artists. The gallery participated in 34 international fairs, including Art Basel, Frieze New York[9] and FIAC.[10]
