Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences (Finnish: Metropolia Ammattikorkeakoulu) is one of the largest and the most international University of Applied Sciences in Finland.[1] The university has four fields of study: technology, health care and social services, economics and business administration, and culture, all of which are also taught in English.
The students number some 16,000 and the staff about 1,200.[2]
Metropolia's background
EVTEK University of Applied Sciences and Helsinki Polytechnic Stadia merged into Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences which began operations on 1 August 2008.
The shareholders in the company in charge of the new higher education institute consist of the capital region cities - Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen - and the municipality of Kirkkonummi.
The new and competitive higher education institute, which measures up to international standards, specialises in innovation and cater for the special needs of the metropolitan area. The training programmes involve close cooperation with businesses and the labour market.
The higher education institute has four fields of study: culture, health care and social services, business and administration, and technology and transport, all of which provide teaching also in English.[3]
International Metropolia
Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences is one of the most international universities of applied sciences in Finland. Ten international degree programmes, student and teacher mobility, work placement opportunities abroad and various projects play an essential role in the international activities at Metropolia.[4]
Erasmus University Charter
Metropolia has been awarded the Erasmus Extended University Charter until the academic year 2013/2014.[5]

Campuses
Metropolia has 15 campuses in Helsinki Metropolitan Area. Metropolia has plans to reduce a number of campuses to four in coming years. It will build a new, large campus in Myllypuro, Helsinki stated to open in 2019 which will replace several campuses. The other campuses will locate in Myyrmäki in Vantaa, Leppävaara in Espoo and Arabianranta in Helsinki. The new campus in Myllypuro will be housing over 6000 students and the school administration.[7]
