Medal record

Michael Andrew (born April 18, 1999) is an American competitive swimmer. He won the gold medal in the 50 meter backstroke at the 2015 FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in Singapore, breaking the Championships record in both the heats and the final.[4] He also won the silver medal in the 50 meter freestyle and 50 meter butterfly events and reached the final in four other individual events.[5] FINA named him male swimmer of the meet.[6]
Andrew has broken more than 100 National Age Group records (long course meters and short course yards combined), more than any other American swimmer.[7][8] He turned professional in 2013 at the age of 14, becoming the youngest American swimmer to do so.[9] He is coached by his father in a two-lane pool in their backyard,[2] and trains in a non-traditional way, using a method called Ultra Short Race Pace Training (USRPT).[3][10]
Personal life
Andrew started swimming at age 7.[3] His parents, Peter and Tina, are South African natives who moved to America in 1997. The family moved to Lawrence, Kansas in 2011.[2] Andrew has a younger sister who also swims.[11]
