The Micronas Group is a developer and manufacturer of semiconductor-based sensor and IC system solutions for automotive and industrial electronics. The Micronas Semiconductor Holding AG is headquartered in Zurich (Switzerland). Micronas is listed at the Swiss stock exchange (SIX Swiss Exchange).
History
The company was founded in May 1989 in Switzerland as Crosstec Engineering AG. In July 1992 it took over Nokia’s subsidiary Micronas Oy, Finland. Since that date, the company operates as Micronas. In 1995, the Micronas Semiconductor Holding AG in Zurich was founded and four months later the company was listed at the Swiss stock exchange. In 1997, Micronas acquired ITT’s German subsidiary Intermetall, Freiburg.
In 2000, the Micronas Holding AG took over 15% of Analog Circuit Technologies (now innoCOMM Wireless), San Diego, California. This investment was sold in February 2001 with the acquisition of innoCOMM Wireless by National Semiconductor. In October of the same year Micronas acquired Infineon’s business division Image and Video, in April 2003 the Dutch design center of Microtune, in May 2004 LINX Electronics, and in December 2005 WISchip International.
In 2007 and 2008 a restructuring of the consumer segment took place. Some sections of the consumer electronics division were sold in 2009, the remainder was closed. In addition to its automotive division, Micronas founded the business division Industrial in 2010 and thus concentrates on both the automobile, as well as on the industrial market. In 2011 Micronas claimed to be profitable again after four years of losses.[2]
