Miguel de Riglos y de la Bastida (1649-1719) was a Spanish nobleman, merchant, and Captain in the fort of Buenos Aires during the Viceroyalty of Peru.[2]

Biography

Miguel de Riglos was born in Tudela, Navarre, the son of Juan de Riglos and Fermina de la Bastida.[3] He arrived in the port of Buenos Aires in the expedition of Captain Miguel de Vergara, commanded by Navio "San Hermenegildo".[4] Riglos was one of the richest men in the Buenos Aires to early 18th century. He had among his possessions a luxurious carriage with golden studs, and a stained glass window inside.[5] Riglos also built a luxurious house known as the "Altos de Riglos", the first house on two floors of Buenos Aires,[6] located at the current corner Bolivar and Avenida Rivadavia.[7]

Miguel de Riglos was the ancestor of María de los Remedios de Escalada, wife of General don José de San Martín.[8] His grandson Miguel Fermín de Riglos was a knight of the Order of Santiago.[9]
