Milaap is India's largest crowdfunding platform, based out of Bangalore, India.[1][2] It allows individuals and organizations to crowdfund donations for personal causes, emergencies, neighbourhood projects, social causes, and events.[3]

Origin

Milaap was founded in 2011 by Anoj Viswananthan, Mayukh Choudhury, and Sourabh Sharma.[4] Milaap's first product was a crowdfunding platform for people to contribute to loan projects in rural India, in the form micro-loans.[5] Milaap launched its crowdfunding product 'Open' for donations in 2014.

Operating model

Donations

Milaap's platform caters to donations for personal causes and life events such as medical bills, education and tuition fees, and community projects. Fundraisers could be individuals or organizations. Milaap generates revenue by automatically deducting a fee from each donation users receive. Milaap also helps corporations to create engagement-campaigns around causes.

Microlending

Under its crowdfunding product for microcredit, Milaap has individuals lending to low-income borrowers in rural India, for projects in energy, education, water, sanitation, and small businesses.[6]
