Milho Branco
Milho Branco is a village in the southeastern part of the island of Santiago, Cape Verde. It is situated near the town and north of the capital Praia. It is part of the municipality of São Domingos. It is the seat of parish of Nossa Senhora da Luz. Its 2010 population was 607.

About the village
The settlement name etymology means the white mill which was located near the area. The writer and Parish priest Padre Fernando Ferros writes on an article about Milho Branco and being located on a parcel of land that is located near the boundary of the municipalities of Praia and Santa Cruz[2]
The main economy of the village are commerce and agriculture along with fishing. Another great traditiion is football (soccer), a club once existed is titled África Negra FC (Futebol Clube) founded in the town and played in a municipal field, the club was very active in the 1990s. The importance of the location is that houses the seat of the municipal delegations of the parish.
Notable landmarks includes the Our Lady of Fatima (Nossa Senhora de Fàtima) church first built 1955 by Padre Figueira Pinto and holds 80 people, in 1972 by Padre Firmino Cachada enlarged to hold 50 people and 200 people attend the church. Later the parish center of Nossa Senhora da Luz.
Other facilities includes a community center, a sports complex and a municipal delegate building, a market is located in the center of town, it also has a police station and an elementary school complex and a dirt football (osccer) field. Milho Branco had one of the largest schools in Cape Verde first opened in the colonial era the Escola de Habilitação de Professores de Variante (The School of DIfferent Teachers) which today lie in ruins. Milho Branco also features a law office which as built on November 2011 by the Minster of Justice José Carlos Correia.
Water, electricity, phone and press services exists in the town, the new main road connecting Praia and the north of the island is a few hundred meters to the southwest and is north of the junction with the road to Assomada
On March 11, 2010, president of the municipality Fernando Borges opened a town square in a space located near the municipal delegate building.
In recent years, Milho Branco had a small emigration, much of them were emigrating to Europe. Shortage of rain made some people to have a better life.
