The Russian Federation maintains a number of military districts.

Volga Military District and Urals Military District was merged in Volga-Urals Military District according to Decree of the President of Russia № 337с (24 March 2001).[2]

Decree of the President of Russia № 1764 (12 December 2008)[3] changed names of regions after federal subjects mergers.

According to Decree of the President of Russia since Dec 15 2014, Northern Fleet was removed from Western Military District. Boundaries of responsibility of fleet was expanded. Headquarters of the Northern Fleet reformed to Joint Strategic Command.[6]
