This is a list of NCAA Women's Division I Basketball Tournament bids by school,[1] at the conclusion of the 2016 conference tournaments. Schools whose names are italicized are no longer in Division I, and can no longer be included in the tournament.
There are a total of 64 bids possible (32 automatic qualifiers, 32 at-large) at the beginning of the 2016 NCAA Women's Division I Basketball Tournament.
Vacated appearances are not included in the totals.

- America East Conference – Binghamton, New Hampshire, Stony Brook
- UMass Lowell, which joined from Division II in 2013, will not be eligible for the tournament until 2018.
- Atlantic 10 Conference – Davidson, George Mason, Saint Louis
- Atlantic Sun Conference - Kennesaw State, NJIT, North Florida, South Carolina Upstate
- Big Sky Conference – Northern Colorado, Sacramento State, Southern Utah
- Big South Conference – Charleston Southern, High Point, Longwood, Presbyterian
- Colonial Athletic Association – Charleston, Elon, Hofstra, Towson, UNC Wilmington, William & Mary
- Horizon League – Northern Kentucky, UIC
- The 2016–17 season will be the first in which Northern Kentucky will be eligible for the NCAA tournament, following its transition from Division II.

- Sun Belt Conference – Arkansas State, Coastal Carolina
- Summit League - IPFW, IUPUI, North Dakota State, Omaha
- Western Athletic Conference – Cal State Bakersfield, Chicago State, UMKC, Utah Valley, UTRGV
- Grand Canyon, which joined from Division II in 2013, will not be eligible for the tournament until 2018.
