National Mobility Awareness Month

National Mobility Awareness Month is an annual celebration each May in the United States and Canada. The awareness month encourages people with disabilities to embody the spirit of Life Moving Forward by raising awareness of the mobility solutions available in your community.

Disability statistics

Over 18 million people in the US and Canada have mobility issues.[1] 6 million of those with mobility issues in the US and Canada are veterans.[1] People with disabilities constitute the largest minority group in the United States.[1] More than 65 million people in the United States provide care for people with disabilities or a senior family member.[1] 4.4 million Canadians reported having a disability with 56% over 75 years old.[1] Researchers estimate about 2.2 million Americans use a wheelchair for mobility. And, as the population ages, the number of people with mobility impairments will increase by an estimated 22 percent over the next ten years.[1]
