The National Pharmacy Association is a British industry trade association for community pharmacies.

History

It was formed in 1921. On average, an adult visits a pharmacy each year around 14 times. Males aged 16-24 use pharmacies the least.

Function

It represents virtually all owners of pharmacies including large chains - e.g. Boots or Lloyds Pharmacy.

Like many subscription industry trade associations, it offers insurance and legal services. It keeps members up to date with recent developments and new drugs, and offers training and education. It also mediates with the NHS, on behalf of its members and offers Patient Group Directions.

Structure

It has a regional structure of representation within a division of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Not for Profit Structure

Since the inception of the NPA, the association has always been not for profit and concentrated its energies instead into protecting the interests of its members.
