New Image College of Fine Arts is a PCTIA-accredited[1] private academy for film acting, make-up artistry and aesthetics, located in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia.[2] New Image has expanded into independent filmmaking under the banner of production company New Image Entertainment.[3]

History

New Image College of Fine Arts was founded by Bill and Charlotte Dyck in 1980. The mantle later passed to their daughter, actress and model Charie Van Dyke, and her partner John Craig.

Currently, the New Image College campus occupies a 9,000-square-foot (840 m2) penthouse in a heritage building in downtown Vancouver. The school focuses on three distinct fields of study; training actors for theatre, film and television, beauty and special effects make-up artists, and professional aestheticians.[2]

Faculty

New Image faculty members include Gemini Award-winning special effects master and film director Ryan Nicholson, who schools his students both in class and on full-length independent features in a unique work experience program.[4][5] New Image acting instructors include Gemini Award-winning film actor Philip Granger, "one of Canada's premier actors."[6] Other faculty (as of 2011) include Vancouver-based actors Raugi Yu and Sarah-Jane Redmond.

Community

The College has also been noted for its community contributions to Vancouver. The College frequently donates it's time to community events such as The Fair at The P.N.E., Fright Nights at The P.N.E., The Taboo Show, Fan Expo, IMATS and many other community events across the Lower Mainland. New Image College of Fine Arts has given over 2.5 million dollars in scholarships and donations.

New Image Entertainment

New Image College of Fine Arts has taken to producing feature-length independent films utilizing the talents of their students, staff and faculty under the banner of New Image Entertainment.[3] One of these features, Star Vehicle (aka Bleading Lady), has been released internationally on DVD, and several more films, primarily comedies and effects-driven horror films such as Ryan Nicholson's Famine,[7] are on the way.
