Nick Yarris (born 1961) is an American writer and professional speaker, who spent 21 years on Death Row after he was wrongly convicted of murder.[1]
Yarris was stopped by the police in 1982 in his native Pennsylvania whilst he was in a stolen car and under the influence of drugs. To try and get out of jail time, he named a former drug-addict friend (who he thought had died) as the suspect in the rape and murder of Linda May Craig. When that friend turned up alive and with no involvement in Craig's murder, Yarris became the number-one suspect.[2]
Following a brief trial, Yarris was sentenced to death in 1982 and sent to Death Row.[3] In 2003, DNA evidence proved that he had not committed the crime[4] and in 2004, he was released.
He has lived in the UK since 2005, after "falling in love with the country" during a visit to address the British Parliament on death-penalty issues.[4]
He is the subject of the documentary The Fear of 13, and the author of the best selling biography Seven Days to Live My Life [5] and the 2013 follow up Seven Days to Love.[6]
