Noemi Lapzeon

Noemi Lapzeon (born 28 June 1940 in Buenos Aires) is a dancer, choreographer and Argentine educator. She received a Guggenheim Fellowship for the field of choreography in 1999.[1] Lapzeon is the first recipient of the Swiss Prize for Dance in 2002.[2]

Life

Lapzeon as a child began to study the dance method of Jacques Dalcroze (1865-1950).[3] When she was 14 her mother brought her to study with Ana Itelman.[3] She won a scholarship from the Juilliard School.[3] There she studied classical dance, but she returned to contemporary dance in order to study under American teacher Martha Graham (1894-1991).[3] By the age of 19 she danced and was a teacher at Graham's dance company in New York.[3] Lapzeon helped to create the London Contemporary Dance School in 1968.[3] She has lived in Geneva since 1980, and still teaches students there.[3]
