Nooran Sisters

Nooran sisters — Jyoti Nooran and Sultana Nooran,are sufi singers duo from Sham Chaurasia gharana of classical music.

Early life

The sister duo has been trained for 10 years by their father, Ustad Gulshan Mir, who is the grandson of Bibi Nooran, a renowned Sufi singer of 70's era. Music was the integral part of their childhood because of their grandmother, Bibi Nooran. As per Gulshan Mir, their father, the family fell on very hard times after Bibi Nooran passed away.It was very difficult to arrange food as well.[1] To survive, he used to give music lessons. Although it took away him from Mir's music, but it helped his family to pass the bad times. When Sultana was seven and Jyoti was five, he discovered immense talent of singing in his daughters. “They were playing, and in jest, singing a Bulleh Shah kalam they had heard from their grandmother, Bibi Nooran. As per Mir , they didn't miss any beat and sung professionally with table and harmonium. Mr Iqbal Mahal, a music promoter from Canada has discovered the sister duo in the year 2010. He Plays a big role in achieving the current success.

Career

In the year 1972, Harpal Tiwana Center of Performing Arts (HTCPA), has organized a concert to celebrate the birthday of the music maestro Late Jagjit Singh.The sister duo was fascinated by the concert so they left their resident in Patiala,Punjab,India, to attend the show. They got the fame from the MTV Talent hunt series in India"MTV Sound Trippin", with their song"Tung Tung", and later, MTV unplugged series, Coke Studio. The sisters opened the evening with the rendition of ‘Allah Hoo’ and belted out popular Sufi songs, including ‘Dama Dum Mast Qalandar’, ‘Jugni’ and many others. They also sang Jagjit Singh’s Punjabi songs, including ‘Long Da Lashkara’ and ‘Mitti Da Bawa’.

Bollywood

They got their first break in Bollywood with Movie "Highway"in 2014, with the legendary music director A.R Rahman. After that they also sang in movies like Sultan and Mirzya.
