Norman Wood (1889 – 28 July 1916) was an English professional football inside left who played in the Football League for Stockport County.[1] His play was described as "unselfish, for with a crafty left foot he made openings and opportunities for colleagues".[2]
Personal life
In February 1915, six months into the First World War, Wood enlisted in the 17th (Service) Battalion of the Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex Regiment).[3] He rose to the rank of sergeant and died at Delville Wood on 28 July 1916.[3] His name is inscribed on the Thiepval Memorial.[4]
