Old Paludians Association
The Old Paludians Association is the association of former students and staff (i.e. Old Paludians) from the following schools in Slough (originally Buckinghamshire, now Berkshire):
- Slough Secondary School (1912-1936)
- Slough Grammar School for boys (1936-1982)
- Slough High School for girls (1936-1982)
- Upton Grammar School (1982-1993)
- Slough Grammar School (1993-2013)
- Upton Court Grammar School (2013-)
The Association was formed in 1915 and the term Old Paludian has been in constant use ever since. Its name derives from the Latin word palus (genitive paludis) - a slough, mire or muddy place.[1]
In 1936, the Association split into the Boys (or Sports) section and the Girls section. By the 1950s, the Boys section reformed to become the Old Paludians Ltd. They moved to Taplow and nowadays play as Taplow United.[2]
The girls section became the current Old Paludians Association and now welcomes former boys and girls to annual reunions and to join its membership.
