Oni is a Portuguese telecommunications company (voice, data and internet), IT solutions (data centre, cloud computing, security, etc.) and ICT integration, exclusively focused in corporations, public organisms and International telecommunications operators.
Shareholder structure
Oni was acquired in August 2013 by Altice, which now holds the entire share capital of the company.[1]
Altice is a Group specializing in telecommunications, with operations in 9 different geographic areas who work independently but synergistically with each other: France (Numéricable and Completel), Antilles and other French Ultramarine Territories (Outremertelecom, Le Cable), Belgium and Luxembourg (Coditel), Switzerland (Green.ch), Portugal (Cabovisão and Oni) Israel (Hot), Kenya and Tanzania (Wananchi). On a consolidated basis, the Group has around 6 million customers and 4,000 million Euros of revenue.
The acquisition of Oni strengthens the portfolio of B2B companies within the Group, which already integrates Green.ch, in Switzerland and Completel, the third largest operator in the French business market, with 500 million Euros of revenue and 13,000 customers.
Oni
Oni operates in three complementary fields: communications, IT & Cloud and ICT integration.
History
Oni was founded in 1998 and owes its creation to the liberalization of the Portuguese telecommunications market. The original shareholders were the four biggest national economic groups – EDP, Millenium BCP, Brisa e Galp Energia.[2]
Oni is deeply connected to the onset of the Next Generation Networks (NGN) in Portugal,[3] which had a big boost in 2009.[4] These networks revealed to be fundamental to meet the needs of corporate customers and, since then, Oni has been exploring its own NGN.
In 2007 Oni was totally acquired by Winreason S.A., leaving its position as a generalist operator to exclusively focus in the corporate and operator segments. In August 2013 Altice acquire 100% of Oni’s share capital.[5]
The Altice group is specialized in telecommunications and is a long term strategic investor, which manages a consolidated customer base of 6 million clients and consolidated revenue of around four billion euros.[6]
