Orion Energy Systems Inc. designs, manufactures and deploys energy management systems consisting primarily of high-performance, energy-efficient lighting platforms, intelligent wireless control systems and direct renewable solar technology for commercial and industrial customers without compromising their quantity or quality of light.
Orion revolutionized fluorescent lighting for commercial and industrial industries with the introduction of its fluorescent lighting platform in 2001. The Compact Modularâ„¢ reduces light-related electricity costs by 50 percent, while increasing the quantity of light by 50 percent when replacing traditional high-intensity discharge lighting, which has been the industry standard since the early 1960s.
Since 2001, Orion Energy Systems, Inc. has been issued 53 patents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark office with 23 patents pending.
The company also provides energy management services, including site assessment, site field verification, utility incentive and government subsidy management, engineering design, project management, installation services, and recycling in connection with its retrofit installations.
It primarily sells its products directly to commercial and industrial customers, and indirectly through their electrical contractors or distributors.
History
Orion Energy Systems Inc. was founded in 1996 and is headquartered in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Its initial public offering (IPO) occurred on December 18, 2007.
Orion has been awarded the Wisconsin "Manufacturer of the Year" an unprecedented three consecutive times, most recently in 2008.
In March 2009 President Barack Obama highlighted the company's innovative lighting systems in a policy speech about new energy technology and "green collar" jobs.[1] and on January 26, 2011 visited Orion Energy Systems the day after his State of the Union address.
