PAREF Southridge School, or simply Southridge, is a private school for boys located in Muntinlupa City, Metro Manila, Philippines. It was established by the Parents for Education Foundation (PAREF). Southridge is composed of grade school, high school, and afternoon school. Its executive director is Fernando A. Cruz. The spiritual formation of the families in Southridge is provided by members of Opus Dei.
The Southridge Logo
The Southridge Logo consists of a Vinta and a Helm
The Vinta, a sturdy Filipino boat, is the symbol of PAREF. It stands for the educational philosophy shared by all the schools that belong to the PAREF system. The stars on top of the Vinta represent the three (3) sectors that comprise the PAREF school community: the parents, teachers, and students. For the PAREF philosophy to work, there must be a healthy interaction these three sectors. For formation to be effective, the parents and the teachers themselves must be formed first, such that they can lead the students, both by word and by deed.
The Helm symbolizes the school's vision of breeding gentlemen and leaders. Quoting the school's vision: "We envision graduates who are MEN OF INTEGRITY, well-formed and principled individuals, who contribute to the common good of society."
Organizations & Programs
Vocal Ensemble
The Southridge Vocal Ensemble (SVE) was the former official high school choir which consists of the Day School students. SVE was managed and conducted by Adrian Bagayaua during 2010–2016. It was currently replaced with Southridge VOX 2016–present.
Southridge competed again the next year and placed 19th out of 24 schools in Voices in Harmony and 6th place out of 10 schools in Musikapella.
Admirals Media Society (AMS)
AMS (formally called "Photoclub") was established by members of the class of 2006 (Miko de los Reyes, Miguel Reyes, Benj De Leon and Luigi Meer) for Southridge students interested in photography and video. Seminars and workshops are also arranged for the club's future members.
Plautus
Named after the renowned Latin playwright, Plautus is a theatrical program and competition between sophomore, junior, and senior classes in High School. During Plautus Season, each class is required to come up with an original play with a running time of an hour. The plays are usually modeled after a theme or themes that the Plautus Commission assigns (a virtue, a hero, etc.). At the end of the Plautus Season, Plautus Night is held as the plays are awarded according to their performances ala the Oscars with awards such as "Best Play", "Best Director", "Best Actor", "Best Screenplay", "Best Supporting Actor", "Best Set Design", "Best Lights and Sounds", "Best Musical Score" and "Best Poster". Plautus was first started and moderated by Mr. Cortez, and continued by Mr. Clete.
Kaabay
"Kaabay" is a club that teaches catechism and other subjects. Open to high school students, the club members visit Cupang Elementary School and Buli Elementary School weekly to teach Grades 3, 4 and 5 students basic catechism lessons. Members undergo training during Catechism seminars organized during the school year. Matthew Banaag is the current head of Kaabay with Mr. Martin Quesada as Moderator.
The Podium
The Podium is Southridge's official debate team, and considered one of the best debate teams in the Philippines. A member, co-founder, and stalwart of the now defunct Southern Metro Manila Schools Debate Consortium (SMMS), the Podium has consistently improved over the past years and has become a perennial contender for any debate championship in the Philippines and the world. The Podium has also been improving and has earned great respect in the more competitive Interscholastic Debaters' Association (IDeA) Philippines and in the national debating scene. Some of its members have even gone on to earn accolades in the international debate scene.
Currently, The Podium's moderator is Mr. Benjie Torralba and its current captain is Gerard Kawada.
