PVK Olymp Praha
Policejní Volejbalový Klub Olymp Praha (Police Volleyball Club Olymp Prague) is professional Czech volleyball club based in Prague. Until the early 90s the club kept male and female teams, now only female.
History
The PVK Olymp Praha was established in 1957 and was originally called Rudá Hvězda Praha (Red Star Prague). The current name dates back to 1990, changed as a result of the fall of Real socialism in the states of Eastern Bloc.
Men
The golden era of the men's team was just between 1970 and 1990. The club took part in three CEV European Champions Cup Final Fours in 1973, 1985 and 1986 to better position the third from the first participation in Deurne, Netherlands.
Women
Militant from the start in the top division of Czechoslovakia, the club began to win the first trophy as league titles and cups in the early seventies: just between 1975 and 1980 corresponds to the heyday for the club in Europe with two wins in Champions League, the most important tournament for European clubs, and a victory in the Cup Winners Cup.
Both during the eighties that the nineties, even after the division of Czechoslovakia into the Czech Republic and Slovakia, the PVK Olymp Prague continues to achieve success in national although more sparse than in previous years; same thing happens even in the 2000s.
