Pari Bewa, was a female freedom fighter from Odisha, India. Born in Eram,[1] Bewa had a very important role in quit India movement. She is regarded as the only lady martyr of Odisha.[2][3][4][5]
Personal life
Bewa was born in undivided Balasore or Eram which is now situated in Bhadrak.[6] Pari Bewa had no formal education in her life but had a personal attachment to their land, which led her to participate in Indian independence movement.[7]
Eram Massacre
On 28 September 1942 there was a huge gathering at Eram to protest against British Raj and to prepare a course plan of action to fight against British. While the crowd was performing the agitation against the British rulers in a peaceful way, 304 shots were discharged against the crowd. Within some minutes 28 persons were dead on the spot and 56 were injured.[8][2] Pari Bewa was one among the practitioner who died during the massacre.[9]
