New Year's Eve 1995 - Live at Madison Square Garden is a live concert release by the American rock band Phish, released in 2005. The album comprises the band's entire December 31, 1995 show at Madison Square Garden, named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the "Greatest Concerts of the '90s".[3]
The concert is widely considered by fans to be one of Phish's best-ever shows,[4] and is referred to by the band itself as being one of their top five concerts. Following this 1995 show, Phish established a regular tradition of performing multi-night New Year's shows at Madison Square Garden.[5]
The concert setlist features exemplary versions of Phish's live staples, including "Mike's Song" and a cover of The Who song "Drowned." The show also includes a substantial number of songs from Phish's mythic Gamehendge cycle, many of them fan favorites that have become somewhat rare in recent years.
The album was released on December 20, 2005, to celebrate the show's tenth anniversary, and received the "Archival Album of the Year" award at the 6th Annual Jammy Awards in 2006.
In addition to being a CD release, the album is available as a download in FLAC and MP3 formats at LivePhish.com. Selected songs are also available in MPEG-4 video. On March 5, Phish announced that this would be released for Record Store Day 2015 as the band's first full-length live vinyl box set release[6]
