Pierre-Luc Dubois (born June 24, 1998) is a Canadian ice hockey player. He is currently playing with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) as a prospect of the Columbus Blue Jackets in the National Hockey League (NHL). Dubois was born in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec, but grew up in Rimouski, Quebec. He was drafted third overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft by the Blue Jackets.
Playing career
Junior
Dubois was drafted by the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in the 1st round (5th overall) of the 2014 QMJHL Entry Draft, and has played with the Screaming Eagles since the 2014–15 QMJHL season. In his rookie season, Dubois was the league's top-scoring 16-year-old.[1]
Leading up to the NHL draft, Dubois was ranked the No. 1 North American skater. He was described as a multi-dimensional player possessing the ability to influence a game in a number of ways, and a bona-fide future star for an NHL club.[2]
Professional
Dubois was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets (3rd overall) on June 24, 2016, his 18th birthday.[3] On June 29, he was signed by the Blue Jackets to a three-year, entry-level contract.[4]
International play
On December 1, 2015, Dubois was announced as one of 30 players invited to the team Canada selection camp for the 2016 World Junior Hockey Championships. He was one of only two 17-year-olds invited.[5]
Personal life
Dubois is a dual citizen of Canada and the United States, with his mother originally from Atlanta, Georgia. His father, Eric Dubois, is a former professional ice hockey player and is currently defensive coach of Manitoba Moose of the AHL. Dubois began playing hockey when he was three years old in Germany while his father played in the DEL.[6]
