The Polleniinae are a subfamily of Calliphoridae, or blow flies. According to Keys to the Genera and Species of Blow Flies (Diptera: Calliphoridae) of America North of Mexico by Terry Whitworth, the most distinguishing characteristic of this subfamily is its dull color, which is quite rare among most Calliphoridae (Whitworth 721). This subfamily includes the genera Melanodexia and Pollenia.
