Pontomyia Edwards, 1926 is an insect genus belonging to the subfamily Chironominae in the Chironomidae family. This is a marine flightless midge. There are only four species completely described in this genus (P. natans Edward 1924; P. cottoni Wormersley 1937; P. pacifica Tokunaga 1964; and P. oceana Tokunaga 1964) and another possible species was recorded by Epler[1] but only in the immature form. Recently one Pontomyia very similar to the species recorded by Epler was found in Brazil.[2]
