As she was a host and due to her voice and looks the casting director of "Mahabharat" called her asked her to come for the audition. Three days passed but she didn't go, and on the last day the director forced her to give a try for the audition. But she took it very lightly because she thought that she will be not selected but next very day she got a call from the production house that she has been selected to play the lead role of Draupadi. In an interview to E24 she said that When I got the call my friends were there with me and I was so happy that the tears dripped down from my eyes. During "Mahabharat" Sharma escaped a mishap after her clothes caught fire on the show. Pooja was trying to warm herself during the shoot and accidentally her pallu caught fire as she was standing too close. Her hair dresser saw the mishap and put out the fire. [3][4] Her performance as Draupadi was praised by fans and critics alike, and "Mahabharat" show was very successful. Along with fame and recognition she has become a well-known actress. Hence she was praised by all the Indian as well as Indonesian fans.[5][6] [7] Due to the success of the show, Sharma, along with her other co-stars, was asked to tour in Indonesia. She was also part of the Panah Asmara Arjuna, an Indonesian show that revolved around Shaheer Sheik, the actor who played Arjuna. The show became quite popular in Russia as well, so Sharma, Saurabh Raj Jain (Krishna), and Aarav Chowdhary (Bhishma) toured in Russia.
