Prodyut Kumar Deka
Prodyut Kumar Deka (Born 18 April 1978) is an Indian film director & Author residing in Assam, India.
Career
He made his debut as scriptwriter & director with the critically acclaimed Assamese film “Dhunia Tirutabur” (Beautiful Woman),on the backdrop of a lost artiste and won the Best State Director award in 2010. His next film on a political subject “Samiran Barua Ahi Ase” (Return of SamiranBarua) was official entry in the 18th Kolkata International Film festival in 2012.
His other films include “Surjasta” (A Sunset), on the subject of child negligence and a suspense drama “Borosi” (The Trap) and a film based on Rabindranath Tagore's story "Dristi" (The Vision). He was Co-Scriptwriter of the films "Olong" (Strangers in the Mist), which received the National Award for Best Rabha Film in 2015, and forthcoming films "Rum Vodka and Whiskey" and "Naam Nothoka Cinema" (Film without Name). He made two short films based on essays written by eminent Assamese writer & journalist Homen Borgohain called "Why I write" (2008) and "A short film about Walking" (2011) which were shown in various film festivals.
He is associated with Aikyatan group as director of intimate plays like "Moni Kanchan" written by Badal Sircar and "Jonakor Pohar" (The Rising of the Moon) and translator of many foreign plays like "Hatura" (The Monkeys Paw), "Eserenga Rod" (A Sunny Morning), "Apekhyat" (Lithuania) etc. into Assamese.The play "Eserenga Rod" directed by Pranjal Saikia was also performed under "Poorvottar Rashtriya Rang Utsav" in many cities like New Delhi, Amritsar, Jaipur and Vadodara.
He writes on Cinema in the local Assamese weekly and daily newspapers like Sadin, Asomiya Pratidin and Asomiya Khabar. First published book is "Amar Kotha Teolokor Kotha" (About Us, About Them), an anthologies of 31 essays on diverse facets of Indian and foreign films in 2014.
Personal life
Prodyut Kumar Deka was born in Guwahati to film critic, screenwriter and humor writer Pabitra Kumar Deka. He passed his graduation in Commerce in 2000 and completed Law in 2006 from Gauhati University. He works in the Assam Secretariat since 2010 and lives in Pub-Sarania, Guwahati (India).
