Professor Watchlist
Professor Watchlist is a website, containing a list of professors at American colleges and universities, launched on November 21, 2016 by Turning Point USA. The stated purpose of the list is to expose professors who “promote anti-American, leftwing propaganda in the classroom” and/or discriminate against conservative students.[1][2] As of December 2, the website contains about 200 professors.[1]
Controversy
Rebecca Schuman described the website as "abjectly terrifying," writing that she "fear[ed] for the safety of the people on it."[3] The website has also been criticized for allegedly threatening academic freedom,[4] with one professor on the list, Anthea Butler, calling it "an attempt to silence people".[2] The website's organizers have responded by claiming that it simply provides conservative students with a guide to their professors, akin to Ratemyprofessors.com.[5]
